The Burning Sun scandal is once again making headlines after BBC released its documentary on the subject on May 19. In the center of this was the Burning Sun club headed by former BIGBANG member Seungri. It came to light that it was, in fact, a prostitution den as well as a hotspot for molka (illegal filming), drug abuse, and other sexual violence acts.

When it opened, Burning Sun was the largest club in Gangnam and the most prestigious club in South Korea. While it used to feature a luxurious interior and exterior filled to the brim with partygoers, it is now a wasteland.

The following photos and videos show what it was like then and how it looks now.

1. Entrance

The club was located inside the Le Méridien hotel. Its entrance was a distinct yellow-lit arch leading underground, with a flashy red sign marking its name. Men and women lined up for hours to get a chance to enter the hot new club.

Now

Though the tri-arched structure in Yeoksam, Gangnam, still stands, it is obviously abandoned.

2. Dance Floor

The Burning Sun nightclub was a large establishment that included a basement level for EDM, a second level for hip hop, VIP rooms, 60 VIP tables near the DJ box and stage, and spacious dance floors. It could accommodate up to 1,000 guests at a time.

3. VIP Room

The documentary began with a clip of a secret hidden room under Burning Sun. Its interior was never publicized while the club was still under operation, and it is now an eerie empty space still tinged with red walls.

VIPs paid upwards of $75,000 USD to book a table. As part of this package, they had access to a special area just for high paying guests like them where they could request for attractive female guests on the dancefloor to be brought to their sides.

4. Hidden Room

Even deeper inside the club was a hidden room protected by several guards to ensure that VIPs could do whatever they wanted inside. It was here where women were given date rape drugs and taken against their will.

5. Red Bathroom

Finally, the infamous red bathroom was also featured in the BBC documentary. It went viral in porn sites while the club was still open, particularly videos of drugged women being raped.
