Hearts2Hearts‘ Ian was recently involved in a controversial pre-debut social media post. In the photo in question, Ian is seen posing with her friend. The problem comes in the caption, which contains ableist connotations.
The caption reads, “two disabled people.” The Korean word, “jangae-in,” is a daily term used to refer to disabled people. Many students use it as joke, often in situations where they playfully take a jab at themselves or friends. Although it is not as severe as the r-slur, it does not excuse the ableist connotations.
Netizens took the initial exposé harshly, condemning Ian.

Later on, some jumped to Ian’s defense, claiming that it could be her friend who wrote the caption and not her. The original exposé was quickly deleted, with the OP explaining why they deleted it.
