Here’s Where V’s Choreography In #Singularity Originated From
When BTS dropped the LOVE YOURSELF: Tear teaser MV “Singularity” on May 6, A.R.M.Ys went crazy for V‘s deep voice, the sick beat, and on-point dance choreography.
A.R.M.Ys were blown away by the soulful dance choreography throughout – especially by the opening sequence, which features V dancing with a coat rack.
At first, fans didn’t know what to make of it, with many mistaking the hand in the coat sleeve as a woman’s.
-
“It seriously took me so long to figure out what the heck was going on with this haha 😂😂 I must be tired or something – I was like ‘whoa! CGI?? A person? Wait, where’s the person hiding? Wait… ahhh I’m missing the video!’”
-
“lmao forreal!! I thought it was a lady’s hand and was tryna see who it was (I was on my phone) and turned out to be a coat rack… lmao ):”
-
“HAHAHA yes! (We’re all jealous of his own arm, help!)”
-
“And jealous of a coat rack lmao is this what my life has become.”
And fans are noticing the unique choreography is similar to the moves in this dance cover of Johnny Balik‘s “I Need It”, released in 2017.
It was choreographed by Keone Madrid, an American choreographer known for his joint YouTube channel “Keone and Mari”. He’s choreographed for stars like R&B singer Jasmine Villegas, as well as Taeyang, 2PM, VIXX, B1A4 and Monsta X.
And he’s also worked with BTS in the past on their “Fire”, “Dope”, “Not Today” and “Blood Sweat and Tears” choreography.
Keone Madrid confirmed that he was indeed involved with “Singularity”.
Another piece I choreographed for @BTS_twt but this time for my guy Kim Taehyung featuring some of my dancers and good friends 👍🏼 #singularity #loveyourself轉tear #BTShttps://t.co/lPqzYHHzOZ pic.twitter.com/RSf78ZXAQC

The coat rack dance is Keone Madrid’s take on an old favorite routine – a comedic version was featured in a clown sketch during Cirque Du Soleil‘s “Alegra” show. Dance legend Fred Astaire was one of the first to famously use a coat rack as a prop in a dance performance.
Fans are impressed by the artistic talent of BTS’s entire production and video team.
- “I hope they never stop using Keone for their choreo. Seriously, what a match made in heaven.”
- “I really respect and adore BTS’s management and team. I always say this but everyone from their stylists, managers, choreographers, performance directors, MV directors and producers, editors, social media team, etc. are on their A game. None of this would have been possible without everyone being on the same page, so many factors had to come into play at the right time for everything to come together.”
- “For legit, this trailer had too many levels of art layered upon each other. I still need time to process each separately and then simultaneously; from the music, to the lyrics, to the dance, to the props, to the MV itself. All these different things are harmoniously coming together to say something that is grand and metaphorically complex. I think BTS has raised the standards for what is considered quality for our generation.”
A.R.M.Ys can’t wait to see what else is in store from the LOVE YOURSELF: Tear album!
