Chinese Teammates Get Engaged At The 2024 Paris Olympics

Huang Yaqiong won gold and diamond!

On Friday, August 2, Team China’s badminton players Huang Yaqiong and Zheng Siwei competed in the mixed doubles competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 against Team South Korea’s Kim Wonho and Jeong Naeun.

Huang Yaqiong and Zheng Siwei ultimately beat Kim Wonho and Jeong Naeun (21-8, 21-11), winning gold. Yet, Yaqiong received not only gold but also a diamond.

After Yaqiong celebrated with the medal ceremony, fellow Chinese badminton player Liu Yuchen surprised her. Previously, Yuchen won a silver medal in the men’s doubles competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and most recently competed in men’s doubles during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yuchen got down on one knee, pulled out a ring, and proposed to teammate Yaqiong, who was so surprised! While she was holding her flowers, Yuchen gave her a sweet kiss on the other hand.

The romantic moment became a public proposal when it was shown via the videoboard at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena in Paris. It also quickly circulated on social media, going viral.
