HYBE Accused Of Negative Media Play Targeting NewJeans’ Hyein
NewJeans‘ Hyein recently faced accusations of disrespecting a former CF client, Shinhan Bank. Reporter Park Hyo Joo from Money Today alleged that Hyein displayed her Hyundai credit card immediately after the group’s contract with Shinhan Bank concluded. NewJeans had previously been brand ambassadors for Shinhan Bank.
On January 3, 2025, an article titled, “Why people are calling it disrespectful… NewJeans showing their Hyundai cards right after their CF with Shinhan ends,” was published, drawing attention to the controversy. The article explained that not only was the card a sign of disrespect to her previous CF client, but the Hyundai card was also one in collaboration with LGU+ telecom service. NewJeans currently advertises for SK Telecom. The article pointed out the double betrayal.
Her fansite quickly stepped up to clarify that she had simply been showing off a sticker that the fansite had given her. Netizens were also quick to defend Hyein, accusing HYBE of negative mediaplay instead.
