HYBE Accused Of Targeting BTS’s Jungkook Due To His Support For NewJeans
On September 15, 2024, Korean media reported that BTS Jungkook‘s purchased property had increased in value by around $2 million USD. Herald Corp reported that it appreciated approximately ₩10.0 billion KRW (around $7.52 million USD) in less than four years. Jungkook originally bought the house in Itaewon, Seoul, in December 2020 for ₩7.63 billion KRW (about $5.74 million USD). After purchasing it, he demolished the existing structure and obtained a permit in 2021 to build a new property featuring two basement floors and three above-ground floors.
As of 2024, the construction is nearing completion. It is unclear whether Jungkook plans to use the property for personal residence or investment purposes. The current asking price for the property ranges from at least ₩8.00 billion KRW (about $6.02 million USD) to as high as ₩10.0 billion KRW (approximately $7.52 million USD), according to a representative from Anbu Real Estate Brokerage, which specializes in the Itaewon area. The location is known for its affluent residents, and properties in this area are scarce, leading potential buyers to closely monitor the market and be prepared to pay premium prices.
Following the media reports, many netizens found the timing uncanny. They called out HYBE for their alleged use of mediaplay to reprimand Jungkook for speaking out about NewJeans despite their recent issues with HYBE. The girls of NewJeans had broadcast a guerrilla livestream, demanding for HYBE to compel to their request to restore ADOR to Min Hee Jin’s administration. Jungkook posted an Instagram post using his dog Bam’s account in support of the girls.
