On October 10, it was announced that V had earned “Gold Disc Platinum” certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan for his album Layover. This certification is earned by selling 250,000 copies in the country, a massive feat for any artist.

However, in a viral post on a Korean forum, a netizen pointed out that V had already achieved this achievement more than a year ago, during the album’s first week of sales. The netizen claimed that the certification must be applied for by the artist’s company, questioning why HYBE waited a year to do so.

The post continued by explaining other recent issues fans have had with HYBE, including the fact that his photo needed to be updated on the group’s US website.

Netizens discussed this treatment in the post’s comments and surprisingly linked it to former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin.

When it was announced that BTS’s V would be releasing a solo album, many were surprised to learn Min Hee Jin would work with the idol. Min Hee Jin was said to have led the project, working on elements such as the music, choreography and promotion style.

  • It’s amazing—at this point, BTS should just go to a different agency
  • HYBE is really being so petty.
  • No matter how much they might dislike Min Hee-jin, it’s still V we’re talking about, right? I just can’t understand why they would act like that. What kind of company behaves this way? Acting so petty over personal feelings? It’s unbelievable.
  • They definitely left out the 500,000 bulk orders for the solo album on purpose. Since it’s the album Min Hee-jin produced, they didn’t want it to break first-week sales records, haha. Having an inferiority complex so bad that it could bring down an entire company? That’s pathetic, Juicy Bang Si-hyuk.
  • As soon as V’s solo album was released, HYBE has been acting like it doesn’t exist, and they’re still doing that even now, haha. No one can deny this, not even multi-fans, haha. Honestly, it’s like V doesn’t even have an agency… actually, it might be better if he didn’t. Starting with the cancellation of 500,000 bulk orders, no promotions in the U.S., not even making a fan chant guide, and the official accounts aren’t doing their job at all, haha. There are so many things wrong that it’s impossible to list them all, haha.
  • It really seems like they must have some kind of inferiority complex toward Min Hee-jin. How else could they end up hindering even their own artist like this.
  • The point isn’t that only V was treated unfairly, but that the album Min Hee-jin produced for V was overlooked. As a V fan, I was frustrated last year because during his promotion period, the agency didn’t do much to promote him and even hindered his activities by leaving out his album. I didn’t understand why at the time, but after everything that came to light this year, it all makes sense now.
