Netizens In A Heated Debate Over HYBE LABELS JAPAN’s Involvement In A Group Set To Debut With A “Sexualized” Concept For Minor Members
In both Korea and Japan, it isn’t unusual for idols to debut young and as minors. For K-Pop fans, groups like NewJeans, and even iconic second-generation groups like TVXQ and Wonder Girls all debuted with minor members.
Recently, HYBE LABELS JAPAN has come under fire again after a group set to debut under LDH JAPAN released videos and teasers deemed inappropriate for the members.
Although many of the teasers have been out for almost a month, recently, fans online have shared their concerns about the concept. In a TikTok, a netizen shared that HYBE LABELS JAPAN was set to debut a group and the reasons they believed others shouldn’t support them.
While it isn’t uncommon for idols to debut as minors and many K-Pop and J-Pop groups have successfully debuted young idols, the OP shared her anger about the concept teaser.
According to fans and the profiles, all of the members are 19 years old and under (international age), and while the outfits were quite revealing and sexy…
The OP pointed out that the three youngest members were the ones who seemingly had the “sexiest” and most “revealing looks” even though they were born between 2005 and 2007, making them minors.
Along with an OP on Twitter, the TikTok video pointed out the inappropriate nature of the teaser for their track “Birthday.” Along with a user criticizing the “weird close-ups of minor’s feet & mouths” shown in the video’s introduction parts…
They hit back at the “suggestive poses” at the end of the teaser.
On Twitter, another user gained attention for their opinions of MOONCHILD’s upcoming debut.
all things wrong with the upcoming girl group MOONCHILD:
-> 3 out of 5 members are minors and are already being given inappropriate concepts
-> weird closeups of minors feet & mouths, as well as suggestive poses in the teaser
-> the youngest members are getting revealing outfits pic.twitter.com/Ydy0crvKNK— glue (@gwnyoo) March 20, 2023
When the videos were shared, users couldn’t get over how inappropriate the concept was for the young idols.
In the comments, many netizens emphasized that HYBE is not directly involved in the group’s debut and is more of a collaborator, providing investment and support. Yet, considering the backlash received, many netizens want the company to remove their support for the group.
While others believe that HYBE LABELS JAPAN is just their help global promotion and would have no involvement in the styling and concept of the group.
While HYBE LABELS JAPAN isn’t directly involved in debuting the members, the term “Co-Produced” would negatively impact the company if they aren’t seen to do anything about the concept. Although many minors have debuted, netizens believe the members are being “sexualized,” which is never appropriate, especially for minors.
