Netizens Roast Belift Lab For Mediaplay Right Before Their Lawsuit Against Min Hee Jin

Netizens called them out.

On May 22, 2024, it was announced that Belift Lab would be sueing Min Hee Jin for defamation and more. In a high-profile case, ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin claimed that ILLIT had plagiarized NewJeans, leading her to take action against the company.

Right before news of the lawsuit dropped, an op-ed article was released, where a reporter launched into a long essay on why it cannot be considered plagiarism. Titled “Did ILLIT really copy NewJeans?” the article was said to have made it to the “Hot Topics” category on theqoo, before being deleted due to an overwhelming amount of negative comments. Most of the comments called out HYBE and the article.

The reporter claims that “although the concepts are similar, it is hard for it to pose a legal problem.” Going into length about how it cannot be considered plagiarism, it continues to explain how the groups would definitely have similar points due to being under the same umbrella label.

Netizens have since called out the article, accusing it of being a part of HYBE’s media play tactics. They claim that this is much more obvious given the timing of the release. Although the issue of plagiarism has been going on for the past month since Min’s accusation, the journalist chose to release it right before the lawsuit news.
