Top Idol-Turned-Actress Admits She Broke Down In Tears As New Movie Flops Badly At The Box Office
Actress Hyeri — member of popular girl group Girl’s Day — has opened up about her emotional response to the disappointing performance of her latest film, Victory. The movie marked Hyeri’s first lead role on the big screen, but it has struggled to attract viewers, leaving the actress deeply affected.
Set in the year 1999, Victory tells the story of two high school students, Pilsun (played by Hyeri) and Mina (played by Park Se Wan), who create a cheerleading club in Geoje with dreams of becoming dancers. Directed by Park Beom Soo the film was expected to be a hit, especially with its nostalgic themes and focus on youth, reminiscent of past successes like Sunny.
Hyeri’s casting only emphasized these expectations further.

Despite these high hopes, the movie’s box office performance has been shockingly underwhelming. On its opening day, Victory drew just over 36,000 viewers — and by the end of its first week, it had only attracted around 205,000. As of August 26, the film’s total viewership stood at 290,000, far short of the 2.5 million needed to break even.
Hyeri has shared her disappointment and sadness over the film’s lack of success. After receiving a supportive letter from a fan during the film’s promotion, Hyeri admitted that she “broke down in tears,” overwhelmed by the heartfelt encouragement.
I keep crying because I’m so grateful for the heartfelt support that I can’t believe it’s real. The truth is, we could all blame each other. But these words of encouragement are what truly resonate with us, who are all feeling guilty. It’s been so long since I last cried out loud like this, but the reason is clear today — it’s because I’m so thankful!
We might be facing the end sooner than expected, but I will repay this heartfelt support until the very end, thanking each and every person. Thank you for sharing such precious feelings with me. Because of you, I didn’t break down. It’ll be another sleepless night for me. But I’ll welcome tomorrow with hope in my heart because I’m none other than the truly amazing Chu Pil Sun!

Despite the setback, Hyeri has expressed deep gratitude for the support she has received and has vowed to continue promoting “Victory” with the same passion until the end.
Hyeri’s emotional response highlights the intense personal investment she made in the film, from her rigorous preparation for the role to her active involvement in its promotion. Even as Victory struggles at the box office, Hyeri’s commitment to her craft and her fans remains unwavering.
