“Inkigayo” Joins Long List Of Cancelled Music Shows In The Upcoming Weeks

It will not air for three weeks.

In their latest update, SBS announced that Inkigayo has also been added to the growing list of music shows that will be on hiatus due to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics coverage.

SBS announced today that Inkigayo will not be broadcast on July 21, July 28, and August 4 because of the network’s commitment to covering the Olympics. They have asked viewers for their understanding and patience during this period.

‘Inkigayo’ will not air on July 21, July 28, and August 4 due to the SBS Paris 2024 broadcast schedule. We kindly ask for the viewers’ understanding.

Besides Inkigayo, several other popular music shows will also be off the air during this period. The 2024 Paris Olympics coverage — which will take place from July 24 to August 12 in France — is the reason behind these cancellations as well:

  • The Show: July 16, 23, 30
  • M Countdown: August 1
  • Music Bank: August 2, 9
  • Music Core: July 27, August 3

K-Pop fans haven’t been the happiest about the cancellation news, as it reduces the opportunities for their favorite artists to win music show awards. The absence of these shows means fewer chances for artists to gain recognition and for fans to celebrate their successes each comeback.

Since they’re not airing, the music shows are unlikely to announce winners and give out trophies. The cancellations also make it impossible for fans to be able to hear fun encore performances from their favorite artists.

Remains to be seen if any of the TV networks will find a way to award winners despite the lack of music shows.
