International Fans Condemned For Trying To “Erase” BTS Suga’s Drunk Driving Mistake

Both BigHit Music’s initial statement and Suga’s first apology refer to Suga’s electric scooter as an electric kickboard. Yongsan Police Station has since clarified that Suga was driving an “electric scooter with a seat,” not an electric kickboard. BigHit Music has since apologized for and corrected their initial statement. Suga has also released an updated statement. The police investigation into Suga’s drunk driving incident has now ended.

BTS‘s Suga is under investigation for operating an electric scooter after consuming alcohol and exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit. In South Korea, laws governing electric scooters are strict due to the high death rates involving electric scooters.

Despite the severity of the issue in South Korea, some international fans have been making light of the situation on social media.

There have also been attempts to “cleanse” Suga-related searches on X with supportive messages and hashtags such as #ARMYLovesSuga.

These actions have invited criticism from members of the South Korean public, who have condemned international netizens for trying to downplay and erase Suga’s drunk driving incident.

According to SE Daily, electric scooters’ fatality rate for traffic accidents is 5.6%, which is 4.3 times higher than the overall traffic accident fatality rate.
