Today, SM Entertainment has confirmed RIIZE‘s Seunghan will return to group promotions after a 10-month-long hiatus. The company and Seunghan released respective statements.

To BRIIZE who love RIIZE,

Hello, this is Wizard Productions, producers for RIIZE.

We would like to carefully let fans know about Seunghan’s return and the direction of RIIZE’s activities.

As you all know, it has been about 10 months since Seunghan went on hiatus from group activities due to personal issues from prior to his debut.

Seunghan has acknowledged that his actions in the past were wrong and he has deeply reflected on this with a sorry heart towards his members and his fans, halting his activities for nearly a year. We also recognize Seunghan’s behavior was not fitting for an artist so we spent a long time thinking about when to resume his activities.

We sympathize with the fans’ concerns and worries that go past curiosity as there was no information regarding Seunghan’s activities, but we are truly sorry that we are only letting you know of our decision on RIIZE’s future activities now after much deliberation from various angles.

We have been planning RIIZE’s next chapter since before their debut and we believe it will be even more meaningful with all seven members togehter. After several discussions with staff and the members about the future direction of the group, it has been decided Seunghan will rejoin the group.

After rejoining the group and preparing for some time, Seunghan will begin to participate in some group activities starting in November and greet his fans again.

Seunghan has been working hard to improve his skills even during his hiatus and we hope you will continue to look over him with warm eyes as he has much more to show you in the future.

Once again, we would like to apologize for the confusion and hardships caused to the fans who have watched and supported RIIZE’s growth. However, RIIZE is a group that grows together and realizes its dreams.

The members have put the group first and are continuing to practice hard, even at this moment.

We ask that you trust our decision so that we can properly showcase a seven-membered RIIZE to the fans.

We are sure that many of you are wondering what RIIZE’s next chapter will be, how much more they will grow, what are their dreams, and how those dreams will come to fruition in the future. As the ones who are closest to RIIZE, and as their biggest fans, we are also looking forward to their next chapter.

In the future, we will continue to share the same dreams as the members and work hard to repay everyone with good music and great performances from RIIZE. Please continue to stay with us through all of the moments of growth and realization that the members will go through.

Upon the announcement, international K-Pop fans took to social media to react to the news.

Many are rejoicing Seunghan’s return, as most international fans had hoped for the group to remain with seven members.

It’s been especially good for SM Entertainment group fans, as both Seunghan and NCT‘s Renjun have been announced to end their respective hiatuses this week.

Many fans took Seunghan’s hiatus personally, as they felt he was being punished for partaking in nothing criminal but instead normal activities that any young man does. Netizens are calling his return significant to the K-Pop community and a testament to not giving in to toxic fan culture.

Despite the significance, most fans are reacting joyously with memes. Some are even breaking it down in One Direction terms.

For months leading up to Seunghan’s return, fans have been hopeful due to hints about his comeback, particularly from the members.

International fans are pointing out that Seunghan mentioned his members’ support in his letter. So, he wouldn’t have returned if not for them.

Despite international fans’ support for Seunghan, the sentiments are not quite shared in Korea. SM Entertainment staff are opposed, with some even dissing international fans, and Korean netizens have expressed their disapproval as well.
