JYP Entertainment Flamed Over ITZY’s Chart Performance
ITZY’s recently returned GOLD on October 15, marking a significant return for member Lia after a break from group activities due to health concerns.
Many expressed excitement over the group’s return over the teasers, praising the members for their visuals and the album’s appearance at that point. However, Korean netizens reacted less than impressed after the album was released.
In particular, Korean fans appear less than thrilled with the title track, “Gold,” finding it lacking compared to their expectations.
Now, days after the title track’s release, its chart performance has seemingly reflected netizens’ lack of interest in the song.
A viral post on a Korean forum shared the MelOn performance of the song over the last three days. The song’s ranking dropped daily; as of October 17, it was 325.
Many in the comments acknowledged ITZY’s talents and skills but blamed JYP for allegedly not picking appropriate songs.
- “No matter how well the members perform on stage, it won’t work with that song… JYP has really been doing a terrible job lately.”
- “JYP used to be the top label for girl groups… How did it end up like this?”
- “They’re so out of touch… Honestly, they’re worse than smaller companies.”
- “Honestly, ITZY’s songs have been getting these kinds of reactions for a long time (not just ITZY, but several JYP artists…) and it doesn’t seem like they plan to change.”
- “It has been below my expectations every single time, but this time I got my hopes up after seeing the teaser… but it’s worse than ever. If a rookie sang it, it would’ve been a hit… but it’s not the quality that a group with this much experience should be putting out. This goes for TWICE too… I think the company has really lost its touch.”
- “The song is seriously terrible… How can it get worse and worse? Since “Sneakers”, everything’s been bad, but now “Sneakers” feels like a masterpiece in comparison… They need to overhaul the entire A&R team. They could not be more out of touch.”
