IU Is Going To The 2022 Cannes Film Festival
On April 15, media outlets reported that singer-songwriter and actress IU’s upcoming film Broker is to be featured at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
The film Broker will be competing at the international film festival. The film features a star-studded cast of Song Kang Ho, Gang Dong Won, Doona Bae, IU (also known as Lee Ji Eun), and Lee Joo Young.
The film Broker is directed by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda, his first foray into Korean cinema. The film has long created high expectations for the chemistry between the accomplished director and the Korean cast.
Broker is Hirokazu Koreeda’s eighth film to be featured at the festival, an incredible feat for any director.
IU stated, “Throughout filming for Broker last spring, I learned so much and had been grateful for the unique experience. To top it off. ”
Director Hirokazu Koreeda had previously made news headlines for his comment on IU. Last January, the director wrote on Twitter about the actress,
“How is this actress (IU) so mature and gracious? I am embarrassed to think that I was an immature kid who couldn’t look adults in the eye at her age. I apologize if I ever made anyone uncomfortable. Even so, I am turning sixty.”

The movie Broker revolves around an abandoned child and the relationships that form around the child.
Hirokazu Koreeda is a decorated Japanese film director best known for Shoplifters, Nobody Knows, Like Father, Like Son, and After The Storm. The director has won the Jury Prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival for Like Father, Like Son and the grand prize Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival for Shoplifters.
The Cannes Film Festival is the most revered film festival in the world. The International Film Festival was the grounds for one of Korea’s most inspiring feel-good stories when at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, director Bong Joon Ho won the Palme d’Or for Parasite, a first for any Korean director or film.
