One of the most liked characters on the show is the male protagonist, Yang Gwan Sik (played by Park Bo Gum and Park Hae Joon). A devoted and doting husband to the female protagonist, Ae Soon, Gwan Sik’s unconditional love and support for his wife have set a new standard for many viewers. Since the very first episode, social media has been abuzz with discourse about the “ultimate green flag” that is Gwan Sik.

But as it turns out, it’s not just the audiences that When Life Gives You Tangerines has impacted with its depiction of a dream marriage. IU, who played the character of Ae Soon, and her daughter Geum Myung weren’t spared either.

On April 2, KST, IU sat down with media outlets for a post-finale interview at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel. She talked about her experience filming When Life Gives You Tangerines and her own thoughts on love and marriage. When asked if the show made her consider marriage, the singer-actress candidly confessed that her condition was a husband like Gwan Sik and a family like Ae Soon’s.

A husband like Gwan Sik and children like Geum Myung and Eun Myung, if that kind of family dynamic were guaranteed, then maybe (I’d marry).
