Netizens Thought IU Made A “Mistake” During The Golden Disc Awards, But Here’s Actually What Happened

On January 8, netizens worldwide tuned in to the 36th Golden Disc Awards, and it was full of gorgeous outfits, amazing performances, and well-deserved awards. Yet, one person who rightly stood out as one of the event’s stars was IU.

Alongside her stunning performance of “Celebrity, she also picked up the award for Song of the Year, Digital Song Bonsang, and Album Bonsang. Yet, netizens noticed something adorably funny about what happened after IU finished her speech.

When she finished speaking, IU shared farewells with the ceremony’s hosts, but it seemed like she had no idea what to do with herself after her speech was over!

But she seemed to get the hint because IU quietly walked off the stage just moments after.

Many found it even more adorable as they pointed out that IU had done a similar thing eight years ago during the 2014 Yeosu Music Festival.

However, it seems as if IU knew exactly what she was doing and that it wasn’t a mistake. The soloist recently released some behind-the-scenes footage from the Golden Disc Awards. Alongside sharing her reaction to BTS V‘s speech, she shared what actually happened after her speech.

When she first came off stage, it seemed like even IU was a bit startled by what happened.

I didn’t know that the three hosts were going to stay next to me. So, I was like, ‘Can I make my speech now?’

Yet, although the presence of the hosts being near her was unnerving, IU stood her ground that her staff thought she looked “lost” after she made the speech.

However, IU was confident that it wasn’t a mistake and explained that she was, in fact, following the staff’s instructions.

No, I didn’t. I did not. Staff told me to stand there. After the speech, they told me to stand behind the hosts until the show ends.

Yet, it seems as if despite the staff’s instructions, IU wasn’t sure if she was doing the right thing as it became progressively more awkward as she stayed behind the back, but she continued to follow what she’d been told.

So, I was standing behind them. I thought I might look funny on the screen. So, I looked around and thought, ‘Am I really doing right?’ Also, the hosts told me to stay there.

IU then added that it felt even weirder as time went by. Luckily, after asking, she was allowed to leave. She emphasized that this time wasn’t a mistake, and it was all to make sure she didn’t look out of place.

I was afraid that I might look like an IU who has regrets on the stage. I asked them whether I can leave the stage and they said yes. That’s why I came down from the stage. I swear I didn’t get lost, I was just following instructions.
