IU Reveals Why She Rejected Collaboration Offers From International Artists
As K-Pop has soared to new heights in recent years with its global popularity, many new faces have replaced its older stars. However, IU has not only managed to hold onto her popularity for over a decade but also expanded her audience base, hitting new career peaks every year. As a music artist, IU’s global success is awe-inspiring, and one cannot help but notice that she has done it all without ever hopping on a track with an international artist.
In her recent interview with Billboard, the singer was asked about her willingness to work with international artists, and she responded that she has opened up to the possibility much more recently.
The singer, however, admitted that in the past, she was reluctant to collaborate with foreign artists and had turned down multiple offers. Her reason was the language barrier.
I have received many amazing offers in the past, but I felt a little vague about collaborating with artists who spoke different languages. So, I turned down the opportunities.

Thankfully, her stance has changed now. “But now I don’t think that way. I’m much more open to working with global artists,” she stated, adding, “Please feel free to reach out to me.”
Meanwhile, IU was named as the representative Korean artist for Billboard’s “Global No. 1 Artist” series on December 17 for her unmatched success in both music and acting. She also talked to Billboard about her upcoming projects, which you can read about here.
