Netizens reacted to a Jeans member’s Instagram story.
On May 23, a post titled “Mexican Girl Group Jeans’ Instagram Upload” went viral. In the post, a netizen uploaded a story from Jeans member Paty Sirvent.
In her post, Paty left cryptic messages regarding the plagiarism accusations.
I love it.

Wow! We weren’t so wrong.
— Paty Sirvent
The debate comes from the fact that in the second photo, Paty Sirvent’s comments were uploaded on a post claiming NewJeans had in fact plagiarized the girl group.
All this time they plagiarized us right in front of our faces, it’s like, bro, the clue was in the title.

Netizens however were not impressed as many felt the similarities came from the fact that NewJeans were influenced by fashion in that era.
Netizens flamed HYBE for allegedly continuing to flame plagiarism allegations. Especially as NewJeans is part of the HYBE family.
- “They had even said it wasn’t plagiarism, lol. All they said was that they were happy that the Y2K aesthetic was back but seeing how Bang Si Hyuk stans keep insisting, I guess HYBE is going to get hit by Karma again.”
- “I heard that international BTS fans kept DMing her with edits. LOL, international fans who think insulting HYBE is insulting BTS is the problem.”
- “HYBE, you are blinded by greed and are killing K-Pop.”
- “Saying this is plagiarism is like saying all of Y2K’s fashion plagiarized them.”
- “Ah, none of this is similar. It’s disgusting to see HYBE insist that they plagiarized despite this. You’ve lost the public’s support and it is never coming back, LOL.”
- “The longer this goes, the lower HYBE falls. NewJeans, Hwaiting!”
- “If you watch the full choreography, it’s not similar at all. The fashion is similar but this is 30 years ago and the fact that NewJeans brought the trend back shows how great they are. If people think this is plagiarism, then they are either shameless or have a brain deficiency.”
- “Sigh, we can see through your media play, lol.”
- “Ah, this is frustrating. They aren’t similar at all. How can wearing t-shirts be plagiarizing? I’m going insane here.”
