The Mixed-Race Survival Show Contestant Already Being Dubbed The “Next Jeon Somi” Of K-Pop

Others think she’s more similar to Huening Bahiyyih.

Universe Ticket is an upcoming Korean survival show set to air sometime in the second half of 2023. An indirect sequel to LOUD, the show features 82 contestants who will participate in a series of missions for the chance to debut in a global K-Pop group. The top eight contestants will form a project girl group that consists of activities in both the real world and the metaverse.

It’s the first survival show aired by SBS, and auditions were open for any girl regardless of their nationality born before 2011. The contestants range from 12 to 24, and come from a diverse selection of home countries — Australia, Canada, China, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Though the show has yet to air, there’s one contestant who has been getting quite a bit of attention online due to her ethnicity as well as her history of being in the entertainment industry already.

Her name is Gabi, and she’s the sole contestant hailing from Canada. She’s half-Korean and half-Canadian, and overall just a very beautiful girl!

She’s only 14 years old, and while that doesn’t make her the youngest contestant of Universe Ticket, there are only nine contestants who are younger than her in the 12-13 age range.

She may be recognized by some viewers already, as she appeared on The Return of Superman when she was younger, and has also done some modeling gigs.

Recently, a post was made about her on an online forum that was comparing her to successful soloist Somi due to both of them being half-white and half-Korean. The author of the post thinks that she could follow in Somi’s footsteps due to their similarities. However, commenters were somewhat critical of this opinion, stating that either she has more similarities to Kep1er‘s Huening Bahiyyih or that her ethnicity shouldn’t be a consideration for her future success at all.

The expected first airing date of Universe Ticket is sometime in November this year, so we’ll likely learn more about Gabi and the 81 other contestants on the show between now and then!
