The young fan had been assaulted by someone who had been with Jessi and her friends. Jessi was seen leaving the scene when the fight escalated. Later, she claimed not to know the attacker.
While some didn’t see what she did as wrong, others vilified her for her lack of responsibility towards the matter. The latter felt that she should not have stepped away from the scene, or that she could have tried more actively to stop her acquaintances.
On October 23, 2024, Jessi uploaded an Instagram story in response to a comment that she had received.

Jessi seemed to be affected as she simply begged for the hate to stop. Over the past week, many have been calling out the treatment that she received for the controversy. Not only did she part ways with her agency almost immediately after the controversy broke out, she also faced interrogation over the identity of the attacker.
A female celebrity was blamed, interrogated by police for hours, demonized in Korea, dropped by her sponsors, all because two men got into a fight and she tried to stop it.
