Model-Turned-Actor’s Unrecognizable Transformation Between K-Drama Roles Stuns Viewers
In JTBC‘s weekend K-Drama, The Atypical Family, also showing on Netflix, actor Roy (also known as Choi Gwang Rok) plays “Uncle” No Hyung Tae…
…a mysterious man of tough exterior with a sprinkle of softness.
His looks, alongside his build and his talent, have effortlessly charmed the viewers. But not many realize this is not Roy’s debut.
In fact, for his very first K-Drama work, Roy took on an equally charming role…
…of the Korean French Louis Benuel.
When Green Mothers’ Club aired in 2022, Roy received some spotlight for his sexy portrayal of the character, with viewers wondering if he was half-Korean or even non-Korean.
When it was revealed that, as a Korean man born and raised in Daejeon, he learned French for the role, he was praised for his incredible acting skills.
Upon seeing the transformation between Louis Benuel and Uncle No…
…viewers are bamboozled to say the least!
- “Huh…?!”
- “Wow.”
- “Wait, what?!”
- “Whoa… He’s unrecognizable.”
- “For real? I had no idea, WTF?”
- “What the heck?! He was the sexiest in Green Mothers’ Club.“
- “THESE ARE THE SAME MAN? But I watched Green Mothers’ Club and I’m watching The Atypical Family right now. Yet I had no idea, LOL.”
- “WTF?! I like the post-transformation version of him, too. His character isn’t the most reliable, but that build is definitely trustworthy.”
- “Whoa… He’s f*cking hot… Saving his photos now…”
- “What the heck?! I couldn’t recognize him at all… I can’t believe he’s the same man who was in Green Mothers’ Club.“
- “Daebak…“
- “EXCUSE ME??? I actually had no idea.”
- “He’s SOOOOOOOOOOOO my type.”
- “Wow. He’s good-looking!”
- “WTF, I thought it was actor Kim Ki Bang this whole time.”
- “You mean that’s Louis…?!”
- “I was scrolling through his pictures in awe until I saw the apartments in the background in one of the pictures. I wonder if he lives in my neighborhood…”
- “Wow. His passion for the role must have been real deep.”
- “This is such a surprise. I watched Green Mothers’ Club, too. But I had no idea, I’m so shocked right now. LOL.”
In an interview, Roy shared that he gained about 66 pounds (30 kilograms) for the role in The Atypical Family.

Putting on the weight was not the easiest after being cast in The Atypical Family. But I tried my best, grateful for the opportunity to portray a character like No Hyung Tae, too. Personally, I had a lot of fun shooting the show. So I hope the viewers also fall in love with the character and me acting behind the character.
