Here’s How JYP Composers Feel When They Read Hate Comments About Their Songs
Fans often worry about how idols may feel when they see hate comments about their songs, but few stop to think about how those remarks impact people behind the scenes too—for example, composers. In a new interview with AYO on YouTube, JYP Entertainment composers KOBEE and Holy M talked about how they feel when they read harsh comments.
Some of the songs KOBEE and Holy M have worked on include ITZY‘s “Not Shy,”
Stray Kids‘ “OH,”
and tracks for GOT7, ONEUS, UP10TION, and TO1. Many of the pairs’ songs are major fan favorites, but that doesn’t mean everyone loves them. While you may not think composers spend much time looking up what people are saying about their songs, KOBEE confessed he and Holy M do it “every day,” refreshing their webpages as soon as a new song is released.
Holy M went on to say that he usually feels proud while reading comments—likely when fans are sharing how much they love a track. However, he says he also sees a lot of comments that indirectly criticize the pair’s songs.
For example, KOBEE revealed he’s seen comments asking, “Why would you use a rookie composer for your title song?” While 20-year-old KOBEE is already working with such a major K-Pop company, he’s actually only been in the business for a few years. Despite his skills, it’s likely many doubt him for that.
Naturally, it can’t be easy for composers to read such harsh comments after working so hard on making music. However, KOBEE and Holy M try to take it in their stride. “We can’t satisfy everyone,” he explained, “so we try to accept [comments] with humility and write good songs.”
