Kang Daniel, who currently hosts Mnet’s Stage Fighter, is facing mounting criticism over his lack of progress as an MC. Despite having hosted various programs over the past four years, viewers have expressed disappointment with his ongoing reliance on scripts and lack of fluidity during broadcasts.
In the most recent episode of Stage Fighter, Kang Daniel’s dependence on the script was once again highlighted. According to TenAsia, even during relatively straightforward segments, he was often seen with his eyes fixed on the script, failing to engage naturally with the contestants or audience. His tendency to read from the script, even when moving between different parts of the set, has frustrated many viewers who feel his hosting skills haven’t improved since he began.
This isn’t the first time the singer-turned-MC has been at the center of controversy. In 2022, he faced backlash for making insensitive comments on Street Woman Fighter, which led to a public apology. He also stirred further debate when he mentioned a rival brand to the show’s sponsor during Street Man Fighter.
Many had hoped that his previous experience on shows like Street Woman Fighter and Street Man Fighter would lead to noticeable growth, but fans are now comparing him to other MCs, such as SHINee’s Taemin, who has been praised for delivering a natural and engaging performance despite being new to the role.
While some have pointed to Kang Daniel’s background in contemporary dance as a reason for his MC selection, it appears that his hosting ability, rather than his dance knowledge, is now under scrutiny.
