KATSEYE Sophia’s Sudden Change In Appearance Brings Accusations Of Racism Against HYBE
Recently, it has been impossible to be in any K-Pop space online and not see some mention of KATSEYE. The six-member global girl group KATSEYE recently debuted after being formed by HYBE and Geffen Records‘ survival show The Debut: Dream Academy.
Several group members were immediately popular after their reveal on the survival show, including Sophia. Sophia is from the Philippines and has proven her talent as an all-rounder, making the country proud.
However, recently, some fans have pointed out a change in Sophia’s appearance that might reflect negatively on HYBE.
A viral TikTok claimed that Sophia’s nose had changed in appearance from her time on the show to her debut. A difference is visible in photos from both times, with her nose first appearing a bit wider and flatter and recent photos showing that it is now more pointed with a higher bridge.
Though the video accuses of plastic surgery, it is entirely possible this is achieved through contouring of the nose.
However, the clip raises another point: It accuses HYBE of altering her appearance to fit conventional beauty standards rather than embracing her natural features. This also stands out because Sophia is not in a K-Pop group, and HYBE has emphasized the group’s global nature.

While Sophia looks beautiful both before and after the change, some have commented on the “loss” of her ethnic features.
While there is nothing wrong with getting work done, or changing one’s appearance, it is natural for fans to be aware of the possible reasons for it happening.
