Kim Soo Hyun’s Disney Penalty Is Projected To Be Over 100 Million USD
Amid the ongoing controversy over Kim Soo Hyun and his alleged relationship with actress Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor, the former is expected to face hefty financial repercussions.
According to industry insider reports from March 27, KST, Disney+ has postponed the release of Knock Off season 1, starring Kim Soo Hyun as the lead, just a month before its scheduled release. In addition, the second season was projected to be completed by next month, but since Kim Soo Hyun’s controversy broke, all production schedules have been halted.
As reported earlier, with the project getting shelved, Kim Soo Hyun can get sued for damages by Disney. Knock Off is backed with a significant production budget of over ₩60.0 billion KRW (about $41.6 million USD), with approximately 10-20% allocated for Kim Soo Hyun’s fee alone. So, the financial burden that the actor will be forced to shoulder in case of a lawsuit was already expected to be huge.
In the latest report, industry insiders gave a more precise estimate of what Kim Soo Hyun might be forced to pay in damages if the project falls through. The worst-case scenario, where Knock Off gets altogether scrapped, could lead to the actor being forced to pay damages ranging from ₩18.0 billion KRW (about $12.3 million USD).
