Kim Soo Hyun Announces Divorce After 5 Years Of Marriage
Actress Kim Soo Hyun has officially ended her marriage to businessman Cha Min Geun — better known as Matthew Shampine — after five years together.
According to a report by StarNews Kim and Cha recently agreed to part ways through a mutual divorce. The couple, who tied the knot in 2019, have decided to end their relationship, though the details behind the decision remain private. Custody arrangements for their daughter, who was born in September of the year following their wedding, have not been disclosed.
Kim and Cha’s wedding took place at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul on December 14, 2019. Their whirlwind romance — which led to marriage just four months after publicly announcing their relationship — captured significant media attention. Now, after five years of marriage, the couple has decided to go their separate ways.
Kim Soo Hyun first gained attention as a model, securing first place in the 2005 Korea-China Supermodel Contest. She transitioned into acting the following year, debuting in the SBS K-Drama Queen of the Game. Since then, she has built an impressive portfolio, starring in popular series such as Fugitive Plan B (2010), Romance Town (2011), Brain (2011), Monster (2016), and Chimera (2021).
In 2015, Kim broke into Hollywood, landing a role in the Marvel film Avengers: Age of Ultron. Her fluency in English and strong acting skills helped her establish a presence in international films, with subsequent roles in The Dark Tower (2017), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and Netflix’s Marco Polo series (2014–2016).
Kim Soo Hyun’s latest project, Ordinary Family, is set to premiere in October, marking her debut in a Korean film.
