Korean Caught Selling Child Pornography Through Discord
A Korean has been caught selling child and teenage pornography through a foreign messenger service, Discord.
On May 28, 2024, it was reported that the Busan South District Police Station had intercepted the server, discovering that a Korean had been selling various explicit videos of teens and children through a server called “Santa Room.” The perpetrator has been charged with violation of rights that protect children and minors, as well as for the distribution and possession of explicit material. Additionally, those that made purchases from him were also charged. The police have detected around 100 consumers so far.
It was reported that the police found a post advertising the sale of the videos while they were monitoring online activity. They pretended to be a potential consumer in order to investigate the situation.
This is one of the many ways that Koreans use to distribute illegal material. As local platforms are strictly monitored and easily accessible by authorities, many turn to foreign platforms to avoid detection. Previously, the famous “nth room” crimes were able to go undetected for so long due to them using Telegram as a platform.
