Korean Government Institute Wants Girls To Start School Early So Men Will Be More Attracted To Them

Several attempts at increasing the birth rate have failed.

South Korea has been dealing with a low birth rate issue, leaving many in the government hunting for possible solutions. The birth rate is the lowest globally, with 0.72 babies born per woman in 2023.

Korea has attracted global attention for its attempted and suggested methods of increasing this rate, including social programs and increased parental leave. Despite this, the country’s women have chosen more and more to remain childless, with misogyny playing a part in the decision.

Now, a suggestion by a government institute has raised eyebrows.

The Korea Institute of Public Finance, a government-funded center dedicated to evaluating the country’s tax system and public spending, has proposed sending girls to school year early in order to make them more “attractive” to men.

The institute’s report states that it could make men and women more attracted to each other when they reach marriageable age because men develop more slowly than women. It also seems to work on the belief that men are attracted to younger women, while women are attracted to older men.

Considering that men’s development is slower than women’s, allowing women to enter school a year earlier may contribute to making men and women more attractive to each other in the future when they reach the right age for marriage.

The report also includes the suggestion that that the government create measures to “arranging meetings” between potential matches and “enhancing sexual attractiveness and sociability.

The KIPF has since said the author’s report does not represent the institution’s official stance amid the growing concerns.
