According to police reports released on April 15, he allegedly drugged his family members with sleeping pills before strangling them to death. The victims include his parents in their 80s, his wife in her 50s, a child in their 20s, and another in their teens.

Following the murders, the suspect reportedly traveled to another residence in Gwangju, where he attempted to take his own life. Authorities were alerted by extended family members who were unable to reach the victims. When police arrived at the scene, they found clear evidence of murder. As the father was not present at home, investigators identified him as the prime suspect.

Investigators also found what appeared to be a handwritten note at the scene, suggesting his actions were premeditated and may have included plans for taking his own life.

With assistance from Gwangju police, he was taken intro custody. At the time of his arrest, he had consumed a significant amount of medication and was immediately taken to the hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment, and police plan to formally arrest him once he recovers.

While the full motive is still under investigation, early statements from police suggest that the suspect may have acted due to financial stress and a failed business venture.

It appears that [the suspect] committed the crime due to reasons such as a failed business venture. Once he completes treatment, we will arrest him and begin a thorough investigation into the details of the case.
