Korean Netizens Clown Netflix’s “Hierarchy” For Unrealistic Portrayal Of High Schoolers

Is it your guilty pleasure too?

Hierarchy is Netflix’s latest K-Drama darling. About the prestigious Jooshin High School, Hierarchy tells the tale of the elite and a mysterious newcomer who wants to pry into their dark secrets.

The show was a huge success, hitting number two on Netflix charts internationally in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and more.

On the other hand, Koreans enjoiyed the show as a light watch, but couldn’t help clown it for its unrealistic and “cringey” portrayal. A huge part of the problem was the ages of the characters. Set in high school, the main leads would all be born in 2007.

In one scene, a student born in 2008 calls the second female lead, who was born a year earlier, “a really bad b*tch.”

Others called it the second coming of Boys Over Flowers, another show known for its cringey portrayal.

Come to think of it, this is just Boys Over Flowers.

Some even commented that those fanfics from back in the day would be more modern than Hierarchy.

NGL, those fanfics would be more up-to-date than this.

On the other hand, some commented that they kind of missed this sort of drama. As K-Dramas improve with them time, dramas reminiscent of The Heirs and Boys Over Flowers become rare.

But I kinda missed this sort of childishness. Y’all know that such childish dramas actually are quite good to watch, right?

Childish or not, we can’t help but love Hierarchy. After all, a drama is just a drama. What good is a drama without a little bit of escapism from reality tossed in?
