“NewJeans 2.0?” — Korean Netizens React To HYBE New Girl Group ILLIT’s Concept Photos
HYBE‘s new girl group is debuting soon, and teasers were dropped on March 6, 2024. ILLIT will be a five-member group, with the members handpicked from the survival reality R U NEXT?.
In the teasers, the girls pose on the streets of Taiwan in casual clothing.
Fans had already spotted them filming back in January.
They were spotted in matching outfits on the streets. Fans speculated that they were filming debut content back then.
The result was this gorgeous set of photos!
Although the girls looked gorgeous…
…netizens couldn’t help but compare them to NewJeans. NewJeans’ debut concept photos were also similar shot on the street overseas using similar film techniques.
Although NewJeans does not own the vintage aesthetic, they definitely helped pivot its popularity in K-Pop. Netizens also compared them to f(x), another group who’s aesthetic was pioneered by Min Hee Jin, the CEO of NewJeans’ company. f(x) also employed both the vintage vibes, as well as a quirky, almost borderline creepy vibe.
