Disney Korea Drops The Music Video For NewJeans Danielle’s “Part Of Your World” But Netizens Are On The Fence
NewJeans‘ Danielle was cast as the Korean dub actor for Disney‘s live-action version of The Little Mermaid. When the initial news broke, many doubted her skills, criticizing the team for choosing an idol over a trained voice actor. Even when it was revealed that she went through a fair audition process and won over the judges, the public was still unhappy with the decision.
On May 17, 2023, Disney Korea dropped the full music video for Danielle’s version of “Part Of Your World” in Korean.
Her angelic voice was perfect for the role of Ariel. Although her face does not appear in the movie itself, Danielle’s looks are also exactly like a Disney princess. Despite the positive reactions from international fans of Danielle, the Korean public remains on the fence about the casting.
Many netizens agreed that Danielle’s voice suited the role perfectly. However, they had qualms with her Korean pronunciation, citing that delivery is one of the critical parts of voice acting.
- She’s exactly like the Little Mermaid that I imagined… f*cking pretty.
- Her voice is pretty, but I think the reaction would have been better if she just sang the OST. The problem here is that her pretty face is not even going to appear on screen, and dubbing needs pronunciation to be good…
- I think she has her own habits, and it strangely feels like she’s singing while pushing… She’s pretty though.
- What are we going to do about her pronunciation…
- I love it, really.
- She can’t do the lines.
- So pretty.
With previous Korean dubs of films, singers would sing the OST while voice actors would be hired for the actual dubs. For example, Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon sang “Into The Unknown” for the Korean version of Frozen 2, while a voice actor did the actual role. The Little Mermaid is one of the rare moments where a singer covers both parts. Despite the pressure, Danielle is sure to do well in her own way!
