He isn’t even a Korean citizen.

South Korea is currently facing a tumultuous political landscape amidst the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol and the following arrest warrant for him that he and his supporters are blocking from being executed.

Amid this turmoil, South Korean celebrities have majorly shown their support for protestors who have been demanding Yoon Suk Yeol be held accountable for trying to impose martial law on December 3, KST. But a male singer recently expressed his support for the impeached President on his Instagram, inviting scathing criticism.

On January 3, KST, singer JK Kim Dong Wook took to his Instagram and posted a photo of the Taegukgi (the Korean flag) with a caption implying that protecting President Yoon from the Corruption Investigation Office’s (CIO) probe was imperative to save the country.

“Protecting the President is the way to protect the country! Who cares about the CIO? LOL.”

This wasn’t the first time the singer came under fire for his controversial political opinion. On December 1, he commented on the deadly Jeju Air Crash tragedy, saying people shouldn’t be “forcing sadness.”

It’s never right to force sadness for any reason. Just because you didn’t post a picture on social media doesn’t mean you aren’t sad, and not writing a post doesn’t mean you aren’t mourning. The new year has just arrived. Shouldn’t we all live another year in joy and sadness with our loved ones, sharing our smiles and tears?

JK Kim Dong Wook’s inflammatory comments have ticked off Korean netizens. Many pointed out that he isn’t even a South Korean citizen but a Canadian, and hence, they took issue with his opinion about the political situation in the country.
