Survey Reveals Only 1% Of Korean Women Are Over A Certain Height

These days, it seems like K-Pop idols just keep getting taller on average, especially when it comes to female idols! Girl group members like IVE‘s Wonyoung and Yujin, EVERGLOW‘s Aisha, STAYC‘s Yoon, and Weeekly‘s Monday rank as some of the tallest female idols to ever be in the industry, and they’re all from the fourth generation!

That may lead to people wondering if Korean women are just getting taller on average, or if female idols might just have more luck becoming an idol if they’re tall. Based on a recent survey that measured the typical heights of Korean women, it seems like the latter might be more likely.

According to the survey, 96% of Korean women are at least 151cm (4’11.5″) tall. There have been very few K-Pop girl group members that are under this height, and the only well-known one is arguably former IZ*ONE‘s Nako, who is Japanese. The survey then goes on to say that 89% of Korean women are 154cm (5’0.5″) or taller, and there are still very few relatively well-known female idols who aren’t below in this percentile.

When bumping the height up to 156.5cm (5’1.5″), which 77% of Korean women are at or taller than, there are still only a few female idols shorter than this (such as CLASS:y‘s Kim Riwon or former Lovelyz member Lee Sujeong). 60% of Korean women are at least 159cm (5’2.5″) tall, and finally this demographic starts to include more K-Pop idols who are this height or shorter, such as Red Velvet‘s Yeri, Girls’ Generation‘s Hyoyeon and Sunny, and Kep1er‘s Dayeon.

When you reach the 161.5cm (5’3.5″) mark, only 40% of Korean women are at least this tall or taller. However, there are tons of female idols who are taller than 161.5cm, and still not a ton that are shorter! This includes idols such as Red Velvet’s Irene, (G)I-DLE‘s Shuhua, and OH MY GIRL‘s Yubin, who are all 161cm.

While only 23% of Korean women are 164cm (5’4.5″) or taller, and only 11% are at least 167cm (5’5.5″), this is where we see a lot more female idols to reportedly be this tall or taller. For example, girl group members who are around 167cm tall include KISS OF LIFE‘s Belle, Dreamcatcher‘s JiU, aespa‘s Karina, TWICE‘s Momo, BLACKPINK‘s Rosé, STAYC’s Seeun, and Billlie‘s Moon Sua — almost who are all, coincidentally, more recently debuted idols!

Only 4% of Korean women are at least 170cm (5’7″) tall, and yet the list for female idols who stand at this height or taller is pretty lengthy. It includes ITZY‘s Yuna, NewJeans‘ Hyein, LE SSERAFIM‘s Kazuha and Eunchae, NMIXX‘s Bae, IVE’s Rei, EVERGLOW’s Sihyeon, and STAYC’s J (all of whom are 170cm); Billie’s Siyoon, BABYMONSTER‘s Pharita, and LIGHTSUM‘s Juhyeon (all of whom are 171cm); and Weeekly’s Soeun, Zoa, and Monday, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung, TWICE’s Tzuyu, IVE’s Liz, Wonyoung, and Yujin, LE SSERAFIM’s Yunjin, BABYMONSTER’s Rami and Rora, Weki Meki‘s Doyeon, and STAYC’s Yoon (all of whom are 172-173cm).

Finally, just 1% of Korean women are reportedly 174cm (5’8.5″) or taller, and the only well-known female idol to surpass this height at 176cm (5’9.5″) is EVERGLOW’s Aisha.
