A popular YouTuber by the name of Gwak Blood Water is famous for her diet videos. She first rose to fame thanks to her insane method of starving, where she did a fast for a couple of days, resulting in a loss of 5kg (11 lbs) in just 3 days. This is her most popular video at around 628,000 views.
Due to this fame, she has consistently been uploading diet vlogs for her fans. Her content is focused on crash diets and starvation diets, dropping the pounds in just a few days.
She also has an X account, where she discusses her diets and shows the effects. A particularly viral tweet showed her going on a fast.
My body changed in just 5 days. I’m on my 96th hour of not eating. I exercise while I’m fasting.

She even hosts a chatroom for her followers, where everyone goes on a diet together. They will report their weight changes and what they ate or exercised in that day.
Crash diets are not new news in South Korea. However, Gwak’s repeated weight gain and weight loss using binging and crash dieting has resulted in many raising concerns for her.
- When I was in high school, I didn’t eat anything for a month, and just exercised by running, losing 20kg. But one day, I started to experience pain in my waist, and I went around all hunched. My health got so bad that I had to take a year-long break for school. The doctor even told me that I might not be able to get pregnant. After seeing her, I never starve to lose weight.
- It really makes me sigh how in the midst of all this, I see comments that say her body after losing weight is prettier.
- Why do people watch her videos?
- It’s really harmful content.
- Your body loses water, then burns fats, then muscles. When there’s nothing left, it’ll be your heart that’s hard carrying your muscles… Please take care of your health.
- Her health looks so bad.
- Her bones sticking out like that is really serious.
- This is so harmful.
- Gasp, fasting?
Young followers that watch her videos would be encouraged to try similar methods, thus sparking concern about her video content. While a crash diet is not too dire when done sparingly, her method of fasting repeatedly is definitely harmful to one’s health.
