Why K-Pop Backup Dancer Cha Hyun Seung Originally Rejected “Single’s Inferno” Offer
K-Pop backup dancer Cha Hyun Seung stole both viewers’ and contestants’ hearts when he appeared on Netflix‘s hit reality dating series Single’s Inferno.
Yet, he nearly turned down the opportunity!
Previously, after the show ended, Cha Hyun Seung had revealed that if it weren’t for his friends Sunmi and BTOB‘s Changsub, he wouldn’t have ever done the show. He had actually rejected the offer multiple times before finally accepting.
A summer night’s dream.
I believed that I was just an ordinary guy so when I received a DM to appear on the show, I declined it multiple times. However, they never gave up and they continued to contact me, so I want to thank the producers.
I also want to thank Sunmi and Changsub for convincing me to go on the show even though I didn’t want to. They told me that I might meet the right person on the program.
It was a hot and tiring summer, but it was thanks to you (fellow contestants) who made this the most memorable time of my life. I will never be able to forget this summer, which I spent with you all. I love you guys.
Thank you to the production crew who suffered even more than the contestants. It was because of you that I was able to look attractive on the show.

Now, Cha Hyun Seung has revealed the reasons why he didn’t want to attend the show originally.
Cha Hyun Seung guested on Episode 9 of Show!terview with Sunmi. The besties talked about everything from their viral fancam of “24 Hours,” his shocking DMs, their relationship, and his time on Single’s Inferno.
Also, you were on the show Single’s Inferno where you got a chance to show the different side of you, and you’ve gained many fans from it.
— Sunmi
Sunmi reminded Cha Hyun Seung that he nearly turned down the opportunity despite now having gained more fans from it.
But I still remember what you said before that. ‘Sunmi, I got a casting from a new Netflix show called Single’s Inferno, but I don’t think I’ll do it.’ You could’ve missed so much!
— Sunmi
Cha Hyun Seung acknowledged this and pointed out Sunmi’s contribution as she had continually encouraged him to do it despite his hesitancy.
Cha Hyun Seung: Remember I kept saying I wouldn’t do it?
Sunmi: I do.
Cha Hyun Seung: But you kept talking me into it.
Sunmi: I did.
Sunmi was just as confused as any about why he didn’t want to accept the offer to be on Single’s Inferno! Having known him for ten years, she knew he would be an excellent contestant.
I couldn’t understand it because I surely knew you would be very friendly and sweet to the ladies. I thought people would love you more once they see it.
— Sunmi
However, after giving it some thought, Sunmi realized why Cha Hyun Seung responded to Single’s Inferno the way he was. She admitted that despite his appearance, he actually is not “good with women.”
But I can understand it in a way. He is… (sigh) He’s not good with women.
— Sunmi
He revealed he is very introverted, so he’s nervous about meeting strangers. Consequently, he was concerned that people would mistake him as rude.
As you know, I’m afraid of strangers. I was scared to meet strangers, and I was worried that if I was sitting alone without a word, people would think, ‘Why did that a*shole even come out?’
— Cha Hyun Seung
Nevertheless, Sunmi hoped that Cha Hyun Seung would go on the dating series and meet a nice woman, knowing that many were there. Unfortunately, we know he didn’t find love.
Actually, what I wished for was this! Since there are lots of great ladies in the show, so he can meet someone nice and start a relationship.
— Sunmi
Cha Hyun Seung also confessed that Sunmi had accurately guessed he spent time alone reading a book. At the time, he was too embarrassed to say.
Cha Hyun Seung: When I came back from the shooting, Sunmi said, “Don’t tell me you were alone, reading a book there.” But I actually did! But I couldn’t tell her the truth. I just spoke ambiguously.
Sunmi: WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU??? You can do better!
Sunmi was disappointed in him, and they displayed their sibling-like relationship, teasing each other over the lack of love lives.
Cha Hyun Seung: She’s always like this… She always scolds me…
Sunmi: But every time I do, he says, “Hey, look who’s talking.”
Cha Hyun Seung: I also would say, “Mind your business.”
This sparked them to talk about how they had been mistaken as a couple. So, he revealed if he ever had feelings for her.
He’s good-looking, has a good personality. There used to be a rumor saying that you and I are dating.
