K-Pop Fans In Absolute Disbelief At Shocking Baseball Fan Culture
With so many different fandom cultures, learning about the differences is always interesting! An online post recently garnered attention from fans shocked at how different baseball fandom culture was compared to K-pop fandoms.
An X user’s post revealed that their friend who knew nothing about baseball asked how many uniforms they had to buy to get a player’s autograph. However, the quote retweeted below by someone who seemed to be a K-pop fan received the most unexpected answer!
“X user 1: Can you get an autograph even if you buy just one uniform? What is the system here? Is it like a fan sign event?
X user 2: You can grab them on their way out and ask them to sign.
X user 1: What? Really????”
Another baseball fan shared text messages shared between them and their friend who was a musical fan and couldn’t believe the questions they were asked.
“Friend: Is it ok to enter the game late? To your designated seat?
OP: You can enter the game even 30 seconds before the match ends…
Friend: That’s amazing…
OP: You can eat food, including water, at your seat. If you want, you can stand up and sing along to all the numbers.”
“Friend: Can you go to the bathroom mid-game? Is it possible to re-enter the game even after leaving mid-game?
OP: Are you crazy? As long as the game is still ongoing, you can re-enter it even if you leave to go home and come back. Going to the bathroom is, of course, possible.
Friend: So f*cking generous…”
This came as a shock to the K-Pop fandom as K-Pop events are known to have very strict guidelines for concerts and events.
People could be seen playing video games…

In K-Pop, taking photos or asking for autographs of idols in public can be seen as an invasion of privacy, and is looked down upon, unless it is at an official event.
To this, baseball fans shared various encounters of meeting baseball player Kim Sang Soo, who is known for giving out his autograph left and right.
- “I was waiting in line to get an autograph of a different player, but I had to get Kim Sang Soo’s autograph because we made eye contact.”
- “While the coaching staff and other players walked by us quickly, Kim Sang Soo was the only one who asked if I wanted an autograph. He even signed for my friend next to me and took photos with us. He then ran off as he saw that his bus was about to leave.”
- “I saw Kim Sang Soo while walking outside and made eye contact with him…he turned right back around and signed his autograph for me”
- “I made eye contact with him at a restaurant, and he came over to our table, signed his autograph, and took a picture with us.”
- “A group of kids recognized him from across the street while it was raining. He let the taxi he was about to ride go, told the kids to stay where they were, and crossed the boardwalk to sign autographs for them.”
- “Kim Sang Soo said he would give me his autograph, but I told him I already had it and told him to sign for someone else. He was so sad about it.
Just looking at this, we can see just how different each fandom culture can be. What are your thoughts on this?
