K-Pop Idol Gives Out $2000 To Fans For Lunar New Year

WayV‘s Xiaojun recently surprised fans by giving them money for Lunar New Year. Every Lunar New Year, it is a tradition for Chinese and Koreans to give allowance money to younger generations. In Xiaojun’s case, hongpaos are given out amongst Chinese families. He decided to give fans a little love by publicly giving out a virtual hongpao on Weibo.
This is a feature celebrities can use on Weibo. They can set a fixed total, and the amount each fan receives is random. This goes on until the money runs out.

Xiaojun’s post was accompanied by the following caption, which is a preset one by the function on Weibo.
When you’re rich, you can do whatever you want! I stuffed cash prizes into the red packet; whether you’re able to get one will depend on if you have your heart set on me!
— Xiaojun
He added more money to the giveaway when the original amount ran out.

According to fans, Xiaojun gave out around ₩30.0 million KRW (about $20,800 USD) worth of money that day. What a generous star! Idols have previously given fans redeemable vouchers for snacks and candy, but it is the first time that a K-Pop idol has directly spread money publicly. NCT’s Doyoung previously gave fans vouchers for snacks. You can read more about it below.
