3rd Generation Idol Admits Your Faves’ Skinship Could Simply Be A Part Of “Business Gay Performance”

Fake friendships?

Daisy is a former member of the 3rd generation girl group MOMOLAND. She doesn’t hold back when it comes to spilling the tea on what it is truly like in K-Pop.

When a fan asked her for her opinion on queerbaiting as a marketing tactic, she admitted that this was a deep-rooted part of K-Pop. There’s even a Korean term for it — “business gay performance.”

It was certainly more common in past generations of K-Pop. Many fans enjoyed the idea of two members’ close relationships, and often had “OTPs” within the group. They loved seeing certain pairings interact. As such, games played during fanmeetings or concerts often included ones that encouraged skinship, like the “pepero game.”

Fans went wild for such performances.

Some agencies would even encourage popular pairings to act like they were super close, or like best friends, when the reality was far from that. The culture has dwindled down a little, and agencies rarely force friendships any more. More provocative games such as the “pepero game” and more have also been phased out.

Still, Daisy’s statement casts doubt on many of the current generational groups.
