In 2021, Wu was detained following accusations of rape, sexual assault, grooming, and seeking out underage girls under false pretenses in a statement made by Chinese influencer Du Meizhu. The statement was uploaded with screenshots of details provided by other women as proof. Wu initially denied the accusations, and in July of 2023, he privately appeared in court to appeal his sentence.

The court upheld the original ruling, and said that Wu’s behavior constituted the crime of group licentiousness; he was the ringleader who gathered others to engage in lewd activities. He will continue to serve his thirteen-year sentence.
