LE SSERAFIM‘s Chaewon and Sakura were among the first members of HYBE‘s and Source Music‘s new girl group to be revealed. The two already had a considerable fanbase as former top rankers of Produce 48 and members of IZ*ONE.
Their first sighting as a duo in the new chapter of their careers was in an Instagram update by Bang Si Hyuk. He welcomed them to the family after they signed with Source Music.
We would like to inform you that Miyawaki Sakura and Kim Chaewon have signed exclusive contracts with Source Music, a subsidiary under HYBE. The two artists have signed exclusive contracts based on a feeling of mutual trust with the company, and HYBE and Source Music will cooperate to launch our first girl group with them.

For the fans who were wondering about their dynamic behind the scenes, the girls revealed to Forbes what he told them prior to their debut.
Chaewon confirmed that they talked mostly about their title track. As the head producer of the Fearless album, Bang PD had certain expectations that he wanted the girls to uphold.
The album is based on our story. Mr. Bang encouraged us to be more honest in the way we act and express ourselves.
— Chaewon
Chaewon added that his words inspired them to look closer at the meaning behind “FEARLESS,” a song about moving forward without being shaken by the past. He was a hands-on producer who wanted the members to personally connect to its message.
He gave us a lot of feedback and worked with us to discover a new side of us. This all helped the album show our authenticity.
— Chaewon
Sakura also mentioned that Bang PD’s support gave the group a boost of confidence that they appreciate until this day.
Mr. Bang told us that ‘FEARLESS’ is our story; without the members, ‘FEARLESS’ wouldn’t have existed. Before our debut, we were feeling unsure about whether we were doing well and we were able to work even harder thinking that this is truly our story.
