LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura Breaks Down How She Felt When Being Called A “Bad Singer”
In episode two of LE SSERAFIM‘s documentary The World Is My Oyster, Sakura became a bit emotional as she talked about being called a “bad singer” and how it made her feel.
Despite the ten years she spent as a Japanese idol, Sakura confirmed she’d heard the negative opinions about her vocal skills. She said, “Many people say that I’m a bad singer.”
Becoming emotional, Sakura admitted that it hurt her deeply to hear those words, “When I heard that, I was really hurt.”
Those words were so hurtful to Sakura that “it was really hard [for her] to even enter the recording booth.”
The harsh comments even caused Sakura to want to limit her lines in the group’s songs.
I heard the parts were all divided. That’s basically what I heard. That’s also when I started thinking, ‘I don’t want many lines in the song.’
— Sakura
Sakura was stuck between wanting to give it her all and not wanting to hear the same criticism again. She said, “I want to do well, but I was also worried people might say those things again.”
In the end, Sakura didn’t let the opinions of others stand in her way. Even though she was emotional when sharing the harsh comments, she wore a smile when declaring she would do her best to overcome them.
This time, I really didn’t want to run away. I really want to work hard.

Since Sakura kept pursuing her dream even after being part of the famous group AKB48, she’s not letting anyone hold her back from becoming the idol she was meant to be—even harsh comments. Now she can show even more of her talent as a LE SSERAFIM member.
