Lee Chaeyeon Opens Up About How Hate Comments Affected Her Family
Soloist Lee Chaeyeon recently opened up about how the online hate comments against her negatively affected her family.
Chaeyeon made her idol debut in 2018 as a member of the popular girl group IZ*ONE. She then re-debuted as a soloist in 2022, following the group’s disbandment.
However, Chaeyeon and her sister Chaeryeong (current ITZY member) were in the public eye much before their respective debuts, as they participated in audition programs together. Both of them have faced intense hate comments online, primarily criticizing their visuals, even as young teenagers.
Chaeyeon, who recently appeared in a YouTube variety show hosted by K-Pop veteran Rain, touched on how this online hate affected her mother. According to the idol, her mother was initially very troubled by the malicious comments aimed at her and Chaeryeong at the beginning of their careers. “Bad posts kept catching her attention. She was really upset,” she explained.
Though she struggled with the hate comments for a while, Chaeyeon revealed that her mother had overcome that issue now.
In fact, the singer added that she and her sister Chaeryeong were much better equipped to deal with malicious comments, thanks to their mounting experience in the industry.
Chaeyeon also mentioned that her mother’s attitude toward the sisters’ careers has shifted, and she jokes that she wants them both to “make a lot of money.”
