Lee Hyori Debuts “Different” Makeup Look For BURBERRY Event, Koreans Not Feeling It At All

…and for a reason! Lee Hyori’s fans have long known the veteran idol’s ability to “eat” any concept thrown her way. When she was active, she was sensational—trending every hair, makeup, and outfit styles she debuted.
Even after moving on to her married and less in-the-spotlight life, Hyori remained an inspiration for her hoobae idols.
Her latest transformation, though, is receiving mixed reactions from the crowd. For BURBERRY‘s pop-up event, Lee Hyori debuted a moody fall-vibe makeup look that is different from her usual style.
Following the event coverage, featuring press photos of her taken by Korean media, Koreans are struggling to understand some of the aesthetic choices that were made for the idol.
While still gorgeous as ever, the idol’s makeup didn’t seem to “highlight her best features.”
Generally, because they are taken with harsh lighting and in a rush, press photos are notorious for being less appealing. Koreans acknowledged that the photos worked completely against the idol…

The idol’s long-time fans expressed disappointment at the whole styling—whether done professionally or not, pointing out that “It’s impossible to fail with Lee Hyori,” and yet they did.
- “The makeup aged her so much, I was so surprised.”
- “Wh-??? I’m kind of shocked right now.”
- “Did she want this look…?”
- “The darker shadow colors against the white ring around her lips… reminded me of Fu Bao. LMAO. I think the lighting was not giving, right in that spot where she was standing.”
- “Something is wrong with this makeup.”
- “She could’ve been bare-faced and it would’ve been better than this. What even is going on with those brows?”
- “This must’ve been on purpose, because otherwise… It makes no sense. She would’ve been better off coming bare-faced.”
- “The hair, the makeup… Even the outfit’s chaotic. Or is that the concept? What’s going on?”
- “It’s French chic. I like it.”
- “The brows remind me of, like, terrible tinted brows gone wrong. Haha.”
- “I think she was going for the freckled look… But the MUA didn’t do that well with evening out the skin texture.”
- “The skin tone is lighter around her lips. It’s highlighting her face wrong, to make her look older. Is it possible that the MUA fixed her makeup in a pinch?”

- “Aigoo… The press photos are doing her wrong. These pictures make her look so much older.”
- “You know, it’s impossible to fail with Lee Hyori because she can usually pull of anything and everything. But this…? Literally everything is working against her.”
