Lim Young Woong’s “Attitude” In A DM Response Sparks Massive Criticism

Meanwhile, his agency remains unable to be reached.

For soloist Lim Young Woong, the post he shared on his Instagram on December 7, 2024 (KST) might have been a harmless one celebrating his dog Siwol’s birthday.

Happy birthday, my dear Siwol.

— Lim Young Woong

However, given the current tension in Korea surrounding its President Yoon Suk Yeol, it did not sit well with some Koreans, who then DMed the soloist and expressed their discontent with his update.

It was the soloist’s alleged response that really fueled criticism. To one DM asking about his intentions, Lim Young Woong snapped and commented that he’s not a politician and that he doesn’t have to speak up about the ongoing political unrest.

Sender: Not the right time to be doing that.

Lim Young Woong: Doing what?

Sender: The whole nation is coming together to impeach a president who declared martial law against the constitution. I don’t even expect you to add a voice, but [posting on Instagram] was careless.

Sender: Aren’t your fans mainly older Koreans who have already experienced martial law before?

Lim Young Woong: Am I a politician, though?

Lim Young Woong: Why would I voice anything?

A screenshot of the DM exchange, highlighting Lim Young Woong’s “attitude,” soon swept the internet, leaving more Koreans to grow disappointed with the soloist.

  • “Should’ve ignored the DM.”
  • “Wow… Does he think the people protesting are politicians?”
  • “What got him pressed?”
  • “What the-?”
  • “Posting a dog picture wasn’t the problem. It’s his response.”
  • “This is such a turn off, LOL. I’ve never been able to get tickets for his show, but now… Even if my mom asks, I’m not going to do it for her.”
  • “It’s fine that he celebrated his dog’s birthday. It’s fine that he posted about it. But responding to a DM like that? That’s f*cking rude. His attitude is the problem.”
  • “Wowza…”
  • “He should’ve just chosen not to answer.”
  • “Wow, this is the worst.”
  • “None of the protesters out on the streets are politicians. What is he blabbering about?”

While some Koreans questioned whether the screenshot is real or not, given most celebrities do not check or respond to DMs of such nature, a GIF of the conversation also circulated online—becoming “proof” that the screenshot might be as real as it gets.

@doll9076: Is this real?

@yuspring_: Yes… ^^

Korean news outlet OSEN reported that they attempted to contact Lim Young Woong’s agency, Mulgogi Music, to verify the authenticity of the screenshot in question. However, they were unable to reach any representatives from the agency.

Meanwhile, some Lim Young Woong fans have since claimed that their fan cafe memberships were revoked after asking the soloist to explain.
