Major Change To “Inkigayo” Scoring Sparks Major Backlash
A major change to the K-Pop music show Inkgiayo has received major backlash.
Like all Korean music shows, Inkigayo has a set of criteria that equates to how an artist can win, including SNS, digital streaming, live voting, and much more. For many fans, it is one of the hardest shows to win but there is often a lot of variety, including K-Pop groups, soloists, and those from other genres.
Recently, it was announced that Inkigayo would see some major changes, including adding global music platform data to digital scores (which are make or break for many acts when it comes to points), along with changes to the percentage digital and album counts for.

While some fans acknowledged that it seemed normal for K-Pop music shows to move with the global nature of the genre, many thought the changes would negatively impact smaller groups.
Many believe that Inkigayo‘s initial criteria meant that it focused more on an act’s natural appeal in Korea, but while there is no specific information about the platforms, netizens added that it would benefit the more popular groups with well-known international fanbases. Fans also pointed out that acts and those with more general appeal in Korea, like Lee Young Ji and AKMU, might be impacted.
why does korean music shows are changing their criteria to cater global charts when they are a KOREAN music show in the 1st place like??? this will only hinder groups from smaller companies from winning and will only benefit the artists from big labels. https://t.co/J22AfbFr01
