The Male K-Pop Idols Enlisted In The Army Who Are Going Viral For Their Epic Cover Of NewJeans’ “Hype Boy”
Most K-Pop fans dread the announcement that their favorite idols will be enlisting in the army. Yet, it seems like, with the rise of social media and different activities soldiers can do, there are more ways than ever to keep up with your favorite idols.
In particular, three idols have gone viral after videos were posted of their cover of NewJeans‘ “Hype Boy” from a busking performance.
When the song was first released in July, the track gained attention for the catchy lyrics and, more importantly, the addictive choreography. So, it wasn’t surprising when idols took part in the TikTok challenge and showed off their own skills.
On October 18, several clips went viral after three idols who are currently serving in the army did a performance of the iconic song.
In various videos that have gained millions of views on several social media platforms, the idols showcased their skills and talent during the cover. Considering it was also a girl group dance, it isn’t surprising that they also received praise for doing the choreography justice and not making it “masculine.”
In another clip, the same tall idol is in the shot with another K-Pop star, and it allowed netizens to watch all three idols shine during the cover, but from different angles.
When the videos were shared, netizens in the comments couldn’t get over the idols’ dancing.
It was so popular that even the iconic @kpophappenings_ account tweeted about it, receiving thousands of likes and comments about the identity of the idols involved.

For those who might not know the identity of the viral soldiers, they are actually SF9‘s oldest member and main vocalist, Inseong, who enlisted in March as part of the military band…
And ONF‘s E-Tion and J-US, who enlisted alongside their other Korean members in December 2021!
The others who are in the video who are seen but not focused on are Jongchan from Spectrum and dancer Kim Namwook.
For the past few weeks, the three idols, alongside their fellow members who have enlisted, have been doing busking performances for crowds of fans. It is all for the Gyeryong World Military Culture Expo.
Throughout those days, not only have the idols been wowing with performances of their own tracks, including SF9’s “Play Hard” and ONF’s “Beautiful Beautiful.”
