As Koreans increasingly focus on their career, many are finding themselves having less time for dating and marriage. This is unfortunate for many because despite society no longer viewing marriage as a necessity, overall sentiment towards marriage is still much more favorable than not.
Among the many services catered towards those in the precarious position of finding a spouse, professional matchmakers are becoming popular.
More and more Koreans are relying on matchmaking services due to their efficiency. The service allows clients to state their ideal type to a manager who then looks for matches between members. It’s a curated live version of Tinder where looks, personal wealth, and status are all taken into consideration. Knowing this, one can’t help but wonder, “who do Koreans want to get married to?”
To answer this question, on a recent episode of SBS‘s Private lessons for the scammed, an associate of a matchmaking company provided insight into wedding trends in Korea. Panelist Lee Hyun Yi took the opportunity to ask a few questions we are all curious about.

The matchmaker also divulged industry scams to watch out for when selecting a matchmaker. She advised being wary of matchmakers who catfish, make false promises, and name-drop celebrities to get prospective clients to sign up.
