MONSTA X Hyungwon And SEVENTEEN Hoshi’s Friendship Got Off To A Slow Start, But Now They’re Closer Than Ever
When MONSTA X‘s Hyungwon appeared on Lee Young Ji‘s My Alcohol Diary, there came a time when he mentioned SEVENTEEN‘s Hoshi, who was a previous guest on the show.
MONSTA X and SEVENTEEN have a close friendship thanks to both groups debuting in 2015, but despite seven years of knowing each other, Hyungwon admitted that he only got close to Hoshi recently.

As an INFP, Hyungwon has a hard time getting close to others. Though he meets many people through his job as an idol, it isn’t in his personality (nor is it feasible) to maintain close relationships with everyone he meets.
Hyungwon shared that how he manages his relationships effectively is by following his heart. It’s not a guarantee that the longer you know someone, the more you like them. You might like someone as soon as you first meet, but you might still be uncomfortable with someone you’ve known for years. So for Hyungwon, he only keeps relationships with those his heart feels closer to.
Hyungwon also shared that he doesn’t call his friends often, even if they’re really close. That doesn’t mean they don’t keep in contact, but only that they typically check in on each other over text and save the more important conversations for later.
The staff encouraged Hyungwon to call Hoshi, and the two exchanged a unique and warm greeting. It’s clear from the get-go that the two are now very close, to the point where he naturally calls Hoshi by his real name Soonyoung.

In an attempt to add some spice, Young Ji asked Hoshi what flaws Hyungwon has, but Hoshi had nothing but praises to sing about Hyungwon.
Hyungwon-hyung doesn’t have any flaws. He’s just that perfect.
When Hoshi got sulky over Young Ji teasing him over his low alcohol tolerance, Hyungwon sweetly argued that even when drunk, Hoshi’s a considerate friend. Of course, Hoshi’s consideration is hilarious: when he’s drunk, he falls asleep on the chair and not on the floor. Nevertheless, Hoshi is adorable when drunk, and everyone, including Hyungwon, agrees with that statement.
